HDi technology
Citroën’s HDi (High-pressure Diesel Injection) engines use common rail technology, in which a single rail feeds the injectors at very high pressure.
This electronically controlled system optimizes the fuel-air mix under all conditions of use, significantly reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
The high precision of the latest-generation common rail injection system also increases engine efficiency. HDi diesel engines offer a number of proven benefits, from increased reliability and a smoother drive, to plenty of torque at low revs, low noise levels and reduced fuel consumption and pollutant emissions.
e-HDi micro-hybrid
This technology, which is available for HDi engines, features a second-generation Stop&Start system, with a reversible alternator and an e-booster that immediately restarts the engine in just 0.4 seconds.
Not only does the e-HDi micro-hybrid technology offer a remarkably pleasant drive, but it is environmentally-friendly too.
The micro-hybrid e-HDi technology converts the kinetic energy that is produced when decelerating into electricity in order to cut fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by as much as 15% in towns.
BlueHDi (SCR system)
The new Euro6-compliant BlueHDi 150 and 180 engines deliver reduced fuel consumption and emissions (from 110 g of CO2/km).
-The SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system, which is exclusive to PSA, is located before the particulate filter and uses an additive to treat the exhaust fumes more quickly than the competition’s solutions.
-The NOx (nitrogen particles) are transformed into steam and nitrogen (an inert gas) in a chemical reaction with the AdBlue® additive.
The BlueHDi 150 engine is available in the new Citroën C4 Picasso and Grand C4 Picasso.
The BlueHDi 180 engine is available in the DS5.
Hybrid4
Citroën’s first full hybrid drive train combines the performance of HDi diesel engines and the qualities of electric motors.
Reduced CO2 emissions (88 g/km), a selection of four drive modes, roadholding that makes for a dynamic drive, total combined power of 200 EC hp, four-wheel drive, electric urban drive, accelerator boost function…
The originality of Citroën’s full hybrid solution lies in the combination of several technologies: an HDi internal combustion engine, a second-generation Stop&Start system, an electric motor and an electronic supervisor.
The Hybrid4 technology also features multiple drive modes. Drivers can use the selector on the central console to choose one of four drive modes: Auto, Sport, 4WD and ZEV
Auto mode optimises fuel consumption. Sport mode enhances acceleration and the electric boost function makes for more dynamic gear shifts. The full-electric ZEV (Zero Emission Vehicle) mode can be selected when the battery is sufficiently charged and vehicle speed does not exceed 60 kph. 4WD (four-wheel drive) mode is suited to driving on slippery surfaces.
Full Electric
The Citroën C-ZERO and Citroën Berlingo Electric LCV are driven by a 100% electric powerplant.
These motors are sufficiently powerful to drive in traffic comfortably at top speeds of 130 kph for the Citroën C-ZERO and 110 kph for the Citroën Berlingo Electric.
With a range (according to the NEDC) of 150 km for the Citroën C-ZERO and 170 km for the Citroën Berlingo Electric, both of these vehicles are ideally suited to different types of journeys, without having to recharge too often. Most everyday trips can be made without any problems.
Both vehicles can be fitted with two connectors: one for quick recharging to 80% of battery capacity in 30 minutes in dedicated charging stations, and one for normal charging from a 230V domestic power outlet in 6 to 15 hours, depending on the car and the intensity of the current.
Note that the lithium-ion batteries do not discharge when the vehicle is stationary in traffic. Even better, they are recharged when the vehicle decelerates or when the brakes are applied.
PureTech
Citroën’s PureTech engines are fitted with the very latest technology for an energetic drive and reduced fuel consumption.
The VTi 68, VTi 72 and VTi 82 all belong to the new family of PureTech petrol engines.
Compared with the preceding generation, this family of engines cuts fuel consumption and CO2 emissions (from 87 g/km) by about 25%, while offering an even more dynamic performance!
